Beethoven Meets Harry

It was a big and exciting weekend at the Borlas!!!

On Saturday morning Bella’s alarm went off at 5:00 a.m.  Her High School Orchestra had an early competition in Zion, Illinois called “Music in the Parks”.  They played Idylls Of Pegasus and Sea Chantey, and they got placed Superior for their excellent musicianship.  Bravo to this group of talented and dedicated young musicians!

After the competition we ventured out into Kenosha, Wisconsin for a late breakfast to our favorite donut place, “Mike’s Donuts and Chicken”.  CUTEST little donut shop with the yummiest donut selection (my favorite is the glazed/bacon long John), and a generous breakfast and lunch menu.  On this trip we found out that Mike’s Donuts and Chicken are famous for their sticky fries and yum, oh yum, they did not disappoint, they were delicious, I am so glad we ordered them this time!  Kenosha will always hold a special place in my heart; not only because it’s a charming little town by the lake with cute shops and interesting eateries, but it’s also the town that gave our oldest daughter her first home away from home at Carthage College.  She ended up transferring Colleges after her first semester for various reasons, but the memories that were made during those months, will last a lifetime… they are lasting so long, that we keep going back for donuts after two years! 😊

Saturday was also spent spring cleaning and getting organized.  Remember that oldest child I was talking about just a paragraph ago that went to Wisconsin for her first college semester?  Well, that child came home from college a few days ago with 4 storage boxes, 3 big suitcases, 2 brown bags, and a partridge in a pear tree… almost literally, only thing missing, was THE pear tree, ok, and the partridge!!!  She had so much stuff, I don’t know how she managed to keep it all in that small apartment she lived in the city.  Thankfully for me, she’s always liked organization and neatness especially when it comes to her living space, and that was a good motivator to put things away on a timely manner, and by timely manner, I mean, not August when it’s time to go back to school.  Ok, enough of that college talk.

On Saturday, we also went car shopping for an extra pair or wheels (well, two pairs of wheels).  Our family juggled with two cars and three drivers with busy schedules for two years and now that we have a fourth driver knocking on our door, a third car was much needed.  After many, many, many hours of car research, we decided to purchase a Nissan Rogue.  A cute four wheel drive crossover that our family fell quickly in love with and named “Prince”, in honor of the Royal Wedding happening on the same day.  No, we’ve never named a car before, but this seemed fitting to highlight such memorable day.  Car shopping for the Borlas, and Royal wedding for the Royal family, same thing, right?! 😉

You’d think that with such busy Saturday, we’d sleep all day, but no, never!  Bella had a Sweet Sixteen brunch for a best friend, a graduation party for two other friends and lots of studying for finals.  I went to the movies to see “Book Club” which was funny and sentimental (I wasn’t expecting that) and then dinner in the city with a friend.  Michelle busied herself with a movie outing and friends and good old Stan visited a parishioner from church that is homebound.  I admire Stan's dedication to the ministry of care regardless how busy or tired he is.

Busy and exciting weekend indeed.  I love my little family of four that keeps me on my toes.
