Calmness In The Air

It has been a really long time since I took time for myself. Away from everything, and almost, everyone.

Phone on silent mode, family alerted of my much needed time for solitude, work on vacation mode, and determined to focus on me time. Sometimes, we really, really, really need to do that.

We landed in Mexico on Tuesday around noon, stopped at my favorite taco place for a late breakfast, dropped off my mom at her house, and immediately checked myself in at the hotel.

Tuesday I did absolutely nothing other than relax. I slept for approximately 5 hours straight (I had not slept for more than 24 hrs in preparation for our trip), watched tv, ordered take out delivered at the hotel, slept again, took my coffee poolside in the evening, and then watched some more tv. Nothing interesting, the programming is not great, but I found a channel with Mexican movie classics from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s and it brought back all kinds of feelings. I love those movies. Simple, sweet, and good all around.

Yesterday, guess what I did?! Absolutely nothing again! 😍 I slept on and off, ordered take out again, had the most amazing, and delicious breakfast at the hotel, oh my goodness their food is soooo good, and simply relaxed. I was tempted to get ready, and go out, explore a little, but I decided to stick to my previous plan of taking care of me for a full day, and so glad I did, it was 100% worth it! I woke up this morning and my eyelids look twice as big from all the sleeping I did, ha!

Today, I woke up, showered, got dressed, and headed down to the lobby area for breakfast, again… amazing, delicious, best service!!! I took my breakfast try outside to eat it by the pool… best decision this morning.

I’m on my way to get a mani/pedi, and I have no other set plans, other than (most likely) stopping for a cup of coffee at my favorite coffee shop.

This feels good, and I’m glad I’m taking this time for me.

Self-care is never a selfish act - it is simply good stewardship of the only gift I have, the gift I was put on earth to offer others. Anytime we can listen to true self and give the care it requires, we do it not only for ourselves, but for the many others whose lives we touch. ~Parker Palmer
