Hi.

When Holidays Hurt

When Holidays Hurt

Christmas season is supposed to be the most wonderful time of the year, but it’s also a very challenging time for many people.

The challenge for me personally has always been being away from my hometown and family in Mexico.  Although Christmas is my favorite holiday of the year, for twenty two years it has presented some challenges.  Being away from my parents (who are now elderly), brothers and immediate family during holidays has always been hard.  One question we all get asked often during holidays is “What are you doing for Christmas?”  A simple question that has always stirred many emotions inside of me.  My answer is almost always the same, “not much, it will just be the four of us celebrating, a quiet dinner at home and probably a movie.”  It’s ok, really, I’m not sharing these feelings for sympathy, but holidays are HARD, especially when you know that most families have a revolving door of parties, get togethers and festivities with family members.  I am blessed however, with an amazing and supportive husband who LOVES Christmas more than “Buddy” Hobbs and with two delightful daughters that make any celebration extra special with their conversations, laughter and silliness.  I cling on to that joy with all my being.

This year my heart is particularly hurting for a friend and her children who will be spending their first Christmas without their husband and dad.  For a friend that will most likely be celebrating her last Christmas with her family and for a young family friend that recently received devastating health news.

May we all take a moment during this time of joy and cheer to give thanks for the many blessings we have in our lives.  For the gifts under our trees, for the food on our tables and for the hugs and conversations we share with family and friends.

May we also say a prayer for all those struggling this Christmas season due to family loss, financial challenges, and medical hardship.  May they see light and hope in every person they encounter that offers them a helping hand, and in every person that shows them compassion in the form of gifts or a home visit.

May everyone experience the miracle of Christmas this season by the love they receive.

Christmas blessings to all! ♥
